Nightlife in Bangkok
Bangkok does not have one nightlife district. It has half a dozen, and they behave differently. Sukhumvit Road is the spine, running east past Asok, Thonglor and Ekkamai, and most of the bars and clubs here sit within a few minutes of a BTS stop along it. Silom is the other centre of gravity, denser and later, with the small techno rooms around Soi 4 and Decho Road. RCA and Ratchada hold the big rooms with lasers and a stage. Chinatown and Talat Noi have picked up the newer bar openings, usually in old shophouses.
House and its relatives dominate, and techno has a real scene here rather than a token night, mostly in Silom and Ekkamai. Rooftops lean commercial and run earliest, opening around five and filling before sunset. Bars pick up after ten, clubs stay quiet until midnight, and weeknights are slow everywhere except Silom. BTS and MRT stop around midnight, so plan the way back before you go out. Thonglor to Silom is a long ride in traffic, so it is worth picking one side of the city and staying there.
